Employees at a business in Winnellie had to be treated by ambulance officers late yesterday after they were exposed to leaking lithium batteries.

Police were called when staff noticed the batteries being stored in a shipping container in Coonawarra Road were leaking gas and liquid.

Emergency personnel wearing protective suits went inside the container and removed the batteries for disposal.

Police say no one was seriously affected by the toxic fumes.
